David Speller was the defending champion |
Jersey teenager David Speller has successfully retained his British Under-18s bodyboarding title at Porthtowan in Cornwall. Small waves meant the men's open section was cancelled, but Speller, who is the world surf kayak champion, was still able to to surf well. He beat off competition from England's Luke Brabyn in the final. Jersey's New Zealand-born rider Aiden Dixon took the international title for non-British born riders. Jersey's Eduardo Alfonso finished third in the class surfing for his native Portugal. Dan Garton, who won the under-14s title last year, could not repeat his victory for Jersey in 2008 after stepping up to the under-16s division, coming home in fifth place., the same position taken by islander Simon Watkins in the seniors event. Watkins finished fourth in the masters, a place behind fellow islander Colin Crowther.
