Sports science student Speller is a top surf-kayaker and bodyboarder |
Surf-kayaker David Speller was named Jersey Sports Council Sportsperson of the Year at their annual awards event. The 17-year-old Highlands College student retained his double junior world title in October 2007.
It is the second time the teenager, who is also a top bodyboarder and was crowned British Under-18 bodyboard champion, has picked up the top award.
The prestigious Sid Guy Memorial Award for outstanding contribution to sport went to veteran shooter Bob Blake.
Blake has been largely responsible for Jersey's incredible haul of Island Games shooting medals over the years, not only as a talented competitor but as an administrator in all levels of the sport.
The annual Jersey Sports Council Awards were hosted by BBC Jersey's Roger Bara at the Ambassadeur Hotel on Thursday 20 March.
