Andrew Hennessy is hoping to repeat last year's success on Sunday |
The winner of last year's Jersey Marathon, Andrew Hennessy, has said he is ready to retain his title on Sunday. Hundreds of runners are preparing to compete in the third event of its kind, with Hennessy the man to beat. The doctor, who has only ever run one marathon, said he wants to run faster than his time last year of two hours 36 minutes and 45 seconds. "Last year I achieved all the goals I set so I've made them a bit harder this year," he told BBC Radio Jersey. But the doctor added it has been harder to train than it was for the 2007 race. "Work commitments mean my training's been curtailed somewhat," he said. "But I've prepared fairly well with a couple of fast half-marathons over the past month and a 19-mile race a couple of weeks ago," he added. You can hear live coverage of Sunday morning's race on BBC Radio Jersey from 0845 BST.
