 David Speller claims world title in Santa Cruz |
Jersey's David Speller is the world surf kayak champion after winning the final of the World Championships in Santa Cruz, Portugal. After eight days of competition the Jersey and Channel Island team finished with two world champions, another three medals and two top-four finishes. A great week for Channel Island surfing and team manager Tim Rowe was impressed with the team. "It was a fantastic week for the whole team and a big thanks to Guernsey too." He told BBC Radio Jersey: "From Ailsa and young Adam and then David Speller winning the most prestigious event just capped off the whole thing." Jersey finished fourth in the team event but then Speller won the Open High Performance and Guernsey's Adam Harvey won the Junior High Performance.  Adam Harvey wins the junior world title |
Ailsa McDougal won silver in the Ladies International Class and Tim Rowe picked up silver in the High Performance and bronze in the International Class.
