Tim De La Haye was named player of the tournament |
Jersey's cricketers finished third at the ICC European Under 17 Division One Championships in Ireland after a crushing 164-run victory over Denmark. Jersey batted first and amassed 391-4 from their 50 overs. Captain Ben Stevens was in devastating form, scoring 162 off 115 balls, including 15 fours and five sixes. Stevens was ably assisted by McGuire (53), Bodenstein (44 from 26 balls) and then player-of-the-tournament Tim de la Haye smashed 48 in the final few overs. In reply, Denmark were five for 56 when rain stopped play. Despite the massive margin of victory, Jersey finished in third overall in the tournament and will be pleased with the showing of the three junior sides that have played in the last month. After finishing a credible fourth in the under 19s, Jersey's under 15s just missed the top spot finishing second to Ireland last week and proved their credentials in the under 17s in Belfast this week. Jersey's senior team face Guernsey this Saturday in the annual inter insular before the hard work begins for the ICC World Cricket League Division Five Championships in Nepal in January.
