Ben Stevens was one of a host a number of youngsters to impress Minty

Jersey manager Chris Minty said the island must now focus on its young players following their relegation from World League Division Four.

Captain Matt Hague, Meeku Patidar and Steve and Tony Carlyon have all announced their retirement from the national side.

But youngsters like Anthony Kay and Ben Stevens put in impressive showings.

"You must always look at positives and the performances of some of our younger players were fantastic," Minty said.

And while the veteran players failed with the bat, Minty was full of praise for the youngsters.

"They're 16, 18, 19 and 21-years-old. That's the future of Jersey cricket."

Minty also gave his take on the resignation of Peter Kirsten, who left the squad before the end of the tournament in Tanzania to take up a coaching role with Kenya alongside his brother Andy.

"He only missed one day and was there for the remainder of the tournament.

"It did not go as well as we expected; the batting didn't work and nobody can deny that. It was very frustrating for him, the players and management and everybody.

"But I'm not glossing over anything; it was agreed to release Peter a day or two before the end because we couldn't go any further."
