Jersey win cricket cliff-hanger

Matthew Hague with inter-insular trophy
Matthew Hague captained Jersey to a second successive inter-insular win

Jersey beat Guernsey by three wickets to retain the inter-insular cricket trophy in a tense match at Grainville.

Having won the toss Guernsey struggled with the bat and were restricted to just 119 all out.

Jersey also found run-scoring to be a difficult task and slumped to 35-3 and then 66-5.

However a solid 45 not out from Ryan Driver saw Jersey to their target giving them their second consecutive inter-insular.

Our bowling and fielding was brilliant today, I thought that we were really sharp

Jersey coach Peter Kirsten
Jersey's coach Peter Kirsten was pleased his team managed to restrict the visitors to such a low score.

"Our bowling and fielding was brilliant today, I thought that we were really sharp from the word go and that's where we won the game," he told BBC Jersey.

"I was disappointed with the batting," he added, "but we'll get it right again.

"It was a good game of cricket. Guernsey put up a good fight, a good tough inter-insular."

Guernsey coach Dave Hurst said the inter-insular matches were usually thrilling for the spectators.

"It's great, it doesn't matter whether we scored 270 or 170 first they always go down to the wire in the last five overs. The spectators have a good day."
