Guernsey team gets GFA go-ahead

Belgrave Wanders vs St Martins
The GFA have approved the new team, despite objections from other clubs

Guernsey's Football Association has agreed for a new island team to apply to enter the Kent Premier League.

But after discussions between the two parties the club will have to change its name from 'Guernsey United'.

The new club will also enter a team in the island's under-21s development league next season, regardless of whether or not it plays in the UK.

Guernsey's current football clubs are against the new side as they fear they will lose their best players to it.

They are also worried that it will dilute the standard of the newly-formed Senior County League Division One.

An alternative name for the new team has been accepted but will not be made public for the time being.

But the club now has the go-ahead to progress all its plans for gaining entry into the Kent Premier League from the start of next season.
