Ryan Zico Black last played for Guernsey at the 2005 Island Games
Former Guernsey and Northern Ireland Under-21 striker Ryan Zico Black says Guernsey United may well struggle when they start in the Kent Premier League.
Zico Black currently plays for Bamber Bridge in the league level above the one the new Guernsey side will enter.
"They'll probably struggle but gradually the players will improve as they play against better players," the 27-year-old told BBC Guernsey.
"It gives players more drive to go on and compete at a better level."
Black was on AFC Bournemouth's books as a youth team player.
He played in the Conference with Morecambe and was part of the Lancashire side's team which made the third round of the FA Cup in 2001.
One of the main aims of the Guernsey United side is to enter the FA Cup by 2010.
Zico Black played down a return to Guernsey but did not rule out the prospect completely.
"It would be nice to play for Guernsey United but it depends which league they went into," he added.
"I wouldn't think about dropping any lower than what I'm playing in now. I've dropped a couple of divisions to play in this league.
"If they went into a league that was a similar standard to what I was playing now I'd definitely think about it."
