Priaulx was honoured to give his title over to Muller |
Guernsey's outgoing World Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx ended his reign at the top on a high with two podium finishes in Macau on Sunday. Priaulx guided his BMW to second place in race one and third place in race two around the street circuit of the former Portuguese colony. Seat driver Yvan Muller is the new champion after a third place in race one and second place in race two. Priaulx finished the season in fourth place overall. Muller beat fellow Seat driver Gabriele Tarquini by 26 points to seal the title. "It is an honour to give the championship to a quality driver, and both Yvan and Gabriele are such drivers," Priaulx said. "Gabriele gave me his title in 2004 and I now hand it to Yvan. The most important thing is to win the championship, and that is what everybody is aiming for, but I am proud to be the best BMW driver again. "We have now all got to fight for the title next year. All these guys here are capable of winning it and it is going to be another tough season," he added.
