Priaulx praises Hamilton's title

Andy Priaulx
Priaulx was the last British driver to win an FIA world title

Guernsey's outgoing World Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx has lavished praise on Lewis Hamilton after his first ever Formula One world title.

Priaulx, who relinquishes his world title after next week's final round at Macau, was delighted to see Hamilton win the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday.

Priaulx said: "The maturity he has shown should never be underestimated.

"To cope with what has been thrown at him recently has shown what an amazing head is on those young shoulders."

"If he continues to drive in the way he has done with commitment, restraint, flair and passion this will not be the last world title he wins."

Priaulx was the last British driver to win an FIA title after taking the 2007 World Touring Car title.

But this season he has been dogged by bad luck and seen his BMW under-perform against some of the other cars, particularly the SEATs.

He is fifth in this year's standings with France's Yvan Muller 14 points clear at the top going into the final two races on the street circuit at Macau on Sunday, 16 November.
