Ganguly is just two Test wins away from becoming India's winningmost captain, having won 13 from 33 since taking over in November 2000.
But the captaincy has not been kind on Ganguly, his average dipping to 41 from 46 with just three tons from 54 knocks.
A very elegant shot-maker to the off-side, he is at home against spin and extremely dangerous against any bowling when set.
But Ganguly has found Australia a formidable foe over the years, with no fifties coming in his last 11 innings against them.
Failed on India's last trip Down Under four years ago, and missed out again at home in 2001 - though as winning captain Ganguly had the last laugh.
Will want to show the Australian public what he can do with the bat, but with thigh and groin injuries restricting him recently he has fitness questions to answer.
