Australians know all about VVS Laxman. This was the man who hit a remarkable 281 against them in Calcutta to turn sure defeat into one of the most remarkable Test wins ever.
He had gone into that series with an average of just under 28, and India ultimately came back from being 1-0 down to win the Calcutta Test and the decider in Madras.
But Laxman has not exactly had everything his own way since then. His one-day record is nothing to write home about and he has had one or two lean runs in Test matches.
He was poised to be dropped at one point, before profiting from an injury to Virender Sehwag to fly out to West Indies for the 2002 tour.
And he confounded his critics with 474 runs at an average of 79. He was the Man of the Match in India's win at Port of Spain, though the series went the way of the home side.
