Tendulkar is well on his way to becoming the most productive Test run-scorer in the game's history. Remarkably his one-day record is even better.
Going into the Australian tour he had already hit 36 one-day centuries and his next run target was 13,000.
He is handsomely rewarded for his efforts - not just by the sheer adulation he receives from his adoring fans, but also by a string of sponsorship deals which make him probably the wealthiest cricketer in the world.
But where he really scores in terms of the respect he receives from opponents is in his remarkable modesty - he still takes nothing for granted and is always the most courteous of players.
While his batting is only ever bettered by the likes of Lara and Hayden when they are enjoying the odd purple patch, neither offer the important overs Tendulkar does as a back-up seam or spin bowler.
