Guernsey win to avoid relegation

Guernsey cricket captain Stuart Le Prevost
Le Prevost said they knew Botswana's strength would be in their batting

Guernsey beat Botswana by 25 runs to avoid relegation from the World Cricket League Division Six tournament in Singapore on Friday.

Guernsey chose to bat and posted 241-6, with Lee Savident making 65.

Jamie Nussbaumer then took 4-42 as their African opponents were dismissed for 216 in the last over of the match.

Captain Stuart Le Prevost told BBC Guernsey: "The guys really dug in today and it's been a great day, we're really elated with the win."

"We knew Botswana's strength would be in their batting and they started off like a train, they went really well at the start," said Le Prevost.

"But once our spinners came on they really pegged it back well - taking the pace off the ball was the trick today I think."

Guernsey all-rounder Jeremy Frith was the man-of-the-match having scored 59 and taking 2-29 but Le Prevost said it was a hard choice.

"It was between him and Lee Savident really, they both got 50 but Jeremy just got a few more wickets," he said.

The second win of the tournament for Guernsey sees them face Malaysia in the third-fourth play-off while Botswana and Norway, who are both relegated to Division Seven, play for the wooden spoon.
