Bahrain beat Guernsey by 62 runs

Bahrain posted a total of 251 off their 50 overs

Guernsey lost by 62 runs to Bahrain in the ICC World Cricket League Division Six tournament in Singapore on Monday.

The Sarnians won the toss and choose to put Bahrain into bat where they made 251-6 in 50 overs, Adil Hanif scoring 92 and Azeem ul Haque 72 not out.

In reply Guernsey were all out for 189 (46.5 overs), Jeremy Frith with 56.

"Needing a bigger total resulted in pressure on wickets which told in the end," said Guernsey Cricket Board Chief executive Mark Latter.

The bowling probably wasn't quite up to the mark

Mark Latter

Of the decision to bat second, Latter said: "It was deemed to be the best thing to do which was backed up by the locals, confirming that batting second was going to be good.

"We started off OK winning the toss and doing what we wanted to do, which was to insert the Bahraini side on what was yesterday's downpour, still a fairly damp outfield and obviously with the wicket being covered in the night it'll have sweated a bit.

"The bowling probably wasn't quite up to the mark and as a result the 251 that Bahrain got was certainly 20, maybe 35, runs more then we should have let them get."

The loss comes on the back of a defeat in Guernsey's first game in the tournament against hosts Singapore.
