Harkins bowled the first ball of the ICC WCL Division Seven |
Gibraltar's Ross Harkins bowled the first ball on the long road to qualification for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup in Guernsey on Sunday. Harkins bowled the first over in his team's game against Bahrain in the ICC World Cricket League Division Seven. "This is obviously a good experience, I've never played this sort of cricket before," he told the BBC. Promotion for the top two teams followed by more wins could see them in the World Cup Qualifiers in 2013. | We've never seen them before, we've only played against Guernsey in the whole group |
Gibraltar played Guernsey in the ICC European Division 2 Championship 2008, held on the island but Harkins said the rest of their opposition are unknown quantities. "We've never seen them before, we've only played against Guernsey in the whole group - Bahrain looked okay, they've got a few batters," said Hawkins. The match against Bahrain, which was abandoned after 13 overs due to bad weather, the games has been rescheduled for Tuesday, which is a reserve play day. Gibraltar had kept the batting side to a score of 52-4, something they'll hope to repeat when the sides meet again. Having lost to Guernsey by seven wickets in their previous meeting Harkins is looking for a better result when they play this time. "We were slightly under prepared last year, obviously coming onto the grass again, it's a bit of difference from hard mats," he said. "I think mentally and physically we're all better in shape this year and hopefully it is all going to go well for us."
