Gatting backs new cricket academy

Guernsey Cricket Centre

Former England captain Mike Gatting says Guernsey's new sports centre at Houge Du Pommier will see more county sides look at the island's talent.

Gatting opened the centre at the weekend as Guernsey prepares for the World Cricket League this summer.

"You might find lots of counties popping over once a year to see if there are any very talented children here," Gatting told BBC Guernsey.

"I'm sure there will be because they've certainly got the facilities."

And Gatting, who was also full of praise for the coaches in the island, feels that young players will particularly benefit from the new centre.

"With the coaching that they have here now they have a facility that they can use all year round, it can only help the kids improve much quicker," he said.
