Academy to have CI League place

Jeremy Frith
Frith has left Guernsey's dominant side Cobo to lead the Academy

Guernsey's Cricket Academy will play in this summer's inaugural Channel Island Cricket League.

The side has been set up by the Guernsey Cricket Board for players aged 18 and under who are not getting regular games with their clubs.

Guernsey Cricket Board performance coach Jeremy Frith has left champions Cobo to captain and manage the side.

He is joined by team-mate Peter Le Hegarat while a number of veterans have pledged their help to the side.

"This is an extremely important development for Guernsey cricket," said GCB chairman Dave Piesing.

It's a great opportunity for the boys to continue their learning and fully integrate into Guernsey's domestic structure

GCB coach Jeremy Frith

"To be able to put together a side of young talent in the CI League, bolstered by senior players to ensure that they are as competitive as possible, will prove invaluable."

The island's junior side will play in the top flight of European cricket this summer and are a key part of the set-up for the island's senior international side which makes its World League debut on home soil this summer.

"The way in which we have selected the players for the team demonstrates the development angle, however now selected it's about winning games of cricket," said Frith.

"It's a great opportunity for the boys to continue their learning and fully integrate into Guernsey's domestic structure," he added.
