Guernsey's under-15 cricketers just missed out on third place at the European Division One cricket championships in Jersey.

The island side lost by five runs to the Netherlands in Thursday's third-place play-off in Jersey.

The Dutch made 182-5 in their innings as Sebastiaan Braat top scored with 52 not out.

In reply Guernsey were bowled out for 149 as Glenn Le Tissier and Ben Dewsnip top scored with 21 runs each.

Scotland won the tournament overall, beating Ireland by 16 runs in the final, while Jersey were last.

They've learnt a great deal about where they are and where they fit in European cricket

Guernsey coach Jeremy Frith

"They've learnt where the benchmark is, which is Scotland and Ireland," said their coach Jeremy Frith on BBC Guernsey.

"They're probably similar to the county teams they've played against.

"They'll also take out of it that they know that they are ahead of some of the other high performance nations such as Denmark and they're not far away from Holland," Frith added.

"The lads have been fantastic and they've learnt a great deal about where they are and where they fit in European cricket," he said.
