Jersey won the 2007 European Division Two tournament |
The Under 19s cricket sides from Jersey and Guernsey will play in the top division of European cricket for the first time next year. The islands' Under 17s and Under 15s teams made their debuts in European Division One this past summer. Having previously dominated Division Two standard cricket the ECC gave them permission to play in the top flight. Jersey, who won the 2007 European Division Two, will host the tournament from 14-20 July 2009. Along with Jersey and Guernsey, Ireland, the Netherlands, Denmark and Scotland will make up the tournament. Scotland are the defending champions after winning on home turf in August. Guernsey and Jersey's Under 17s and Under 15s sides will both continue to play in the top flight. The Under 17s will play in Northern Ireland between 27 July and 1 August while the Under 15s will play in Dundee a week earlier against the same teams as the Under 19s. Last season Guernsey's Under 17s came third and Under 15s fourth while Jersey's two junior sides came last in the six-team event.
