Jersey Under-19s lose to rivals

Jersey struggled to find their batting form against Guernsey

Jersey lost to Guernsey by 42 runs in the Under-19s cricket Inter-Insular at Grainville on Wednesday.

Chasing Guernsey's score of 215, Jersey's teenagers were bundled out for 173 in the 43rd over.

Jersey coach Chris Minty told BBC Jersey he felt his side lost the match due to poor decisions by his batsmen.

Minty said: "We made one or two poor decisions which made a mess of the whole thing really. Certainly, we lost it rather than they won it."

Jersey won the toss, sent the visitors into bat and restricted the Guernsey batsmen to 215-8 off their 50 overs.

The pick of the Guernsey batsmen was their number three Chris Whitworth who scored the majority of the runs with an invaluable 85.

Jersey's best bowling came from captain Lee Meloy, with figures of 4-35 off seven overs, and young Ben Stevens, who continued his recent impressive form with 2-20 off 10 overs.

But Jersey did themselves no favours with the bat, with their inability to string together good partnerships proving their downfall.

With the score 135-4 in the 30th over Jersey seemed to be cruising to victory.

Jersey then lost their last six wickets for 38 runs and were all out for 173 in the 43rd over.

Top scorer for Jersey was opener Sam de la Haye with 33 runs, while 47 of their runs came in extras.
