Gran Canaria-born Magui Serna has had an up-and-down season.

In April, she successfully defended her title in Estoril, before winning in Budapest a week later for her third career success.

She maintained her winning streak for 14 matches until she was stopped in the quarter-finals of the Warsaw Cup by Jelena Dokic.

However, as number one seed she was upset in the second round at the Palermo clay court event and she has not been able to find her feet on the American hard courts as yet.

Her Grand Slam form has improved though. Last year she failed to get past the first round in three of the four major tournaments.

But, this season she reached the second round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and the last 16 at the French Open before losing to fifth seed Amelie Mauresmo.
