Like so many of her fellow players, Davenport has struggled with injury this year, but has still succeeded in regaining her place in the world's top five.
Davenport has a long-term foot injury which may eventually force her retirement and it has hampered her preparations for the US Open.
But the former world number one remains a model of consistency and has only failed to reach the quarter-finals or better in five of the 13 events she has played.
A run to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon saw her overtake Venus Williams in the world rankings.
The 1998 champion at Flushing Meadows, her first of three Grand Slam titles, Davenport has made at least the quarter-finals for six straight years.
Injury permitting, it will be a major surprise if she does not make it seven.
