Once ranked as high as 13th, Hrbaty has not been seeded for a Grand Slam since 2001. But thanks to two straight tournament wins, in Adelaide and Auckland, at the beginning of 2004, the Slovakian returned to the elite.
He made it a hat-trick of titles in February when he lifted the Marseille indoor trophy and is still inside the top 10 of the ATP's Champions Race, which rates players' form for the year.
He is one of only three players to have won three titles this season, standing alongside world number one Roger Federer and Carlos Moya.
However, although he is a solid clay-court player, Hrbaty's performances on the surface in the lead-up to the French Open have not been encouraging.
He has managed one win in five attempts and therefore looks an outside bet to repeat his surprise semi-final run at Roland Garros in 1999.
