Robredo has established himself in the top 20 but he is still waiting for his big breakthrough. The 22-year-old reached three ATP semi-finals and a final in 2003, but the highlight was an appearance in the French Open quarter-finals.
He beat three-times champion Gustavo Kuerten and Lleyton Hewitt in Paris, but although he performed consistently for the rest of the year he failed to beat any player ranked above him.
This season, he has again steadily improved, reaching a semi-final in Chennai and a quarter-final at the Miami Masters.
In April he reached perhaps the high point of his career so far when he won a title in his home town of Barcelona, outlasting Gaston Gaudio in five sets in the final.
The gifted Spaniard is happiest on clay and his French Open record bodes well for his progress this year when he will be hoping to build on last year's quarter-final run.
