Jacques Villeneuve is back on the Formula One grid for the final three races with a point to prove.

The Canadian has been drafted in by Renault to help secure second place in the constructors' championship after Jarno Trulli's poor form.

To add frisson, Renault's rivals are Villeneuve's former team BAR, with whose boss David Richards he had a difficult relationship in 2003.

Villeneuve will be hoping to improve after poor races in China and Japan.

His pace in Shanghai - when he was consistently more than a second slower than team-mate Fernando Alonso - was perhaps no surprise.

Villeneuve had been out of an F1 cockpit for a long time, and had extremely limited experience of the Renault before arriving in China. And Grand Prix cars are complicated things.

But he was little better in Japan, after which he admitted he was disappointed things were not going better.

Both Renault and Villeneuve will be expecting better in Brazil - as will Peter Sauber, who has already signed the 1997 world champion for a full season in 2005.
