Hungary is not renowned for producing Formula One drivers, and journeyman Zsolt Baumgartner has done little to change that reputation. Baumgartner is the latest in a long line of drivers who have made it to F1 only because his team needs money and he has access to a lot of it.
He has shown no sign of bucking the unwritten rule that talent is inversely proportional to wallet size.
He has impressed not at all with Jordan last year or Minardi this.
Baumgartner helped Eddie Jordan out of a financial hole last year when Ralph Firman was sidelined for two races, and he is doing the same for Minardi in 2004.
The Hungarian has done nothing whatsoever to mark himself out while driving in the junior categories and, if ability was the sole arbiter, would not be in F1.
