How to survive penalty shoot-outs
2. Focus on a positive outcome
Players should remember that the brain cannot process sentences in the negative form.

For example, if I say to you "do not think of a pink elephant", what are you going to think of?

When approaching the penalty spot, players should formulate positive thoughts such as "I am going to score", rather than "I am not going to miss".

That will create a clear, positive image in their minds.
