Portadown moved back to the top of the Daily Mirror Irish Premier League thanks in part to this 4-0 dismissal of a poor Institute outfit. Vinny Arkins put the Ports ahead in the 15th minute after sloppy defending by Graeme Philson.
The Ports should have been further ahead at the break with Kyle Neill, in particular, missing a glorious chance.
However, Marc McCann struck a second goal in the 47th minute and Arkins and Richard Clarke added further goals.
Both sides had chances early on but Arkins and Gareth Sproule were both off target.
Arkins' lead goal in the 15th minute came after Philson had failed to control a Kyle Neill cross.
The lead goal seemed spurred Portadown to dominate the remainder of the first half.
Peter McCann had a great chance but he miskicked in front of goal.
Marc McCann then had two opportunities but he was denied by Institute goalkeeper Doherty both times.
Just before half-time, Neill contrived to miss a glorious chance when he headed against the woodwork from close range with the goal gaping.
The game was effectively over as a contest when Marc McCann stabbed home the second goal two minutes after the break.
Poor Institute defending enabled Arkins to slot home the third goal on 53 minutes and the Londonderry club's defence went AWOL again nine minutes later as Richard Clarke completed the scoring.
With Glentoran losing at Ballyskeagh, the Ports now head the table by two points.
