Goals from Michael Gault and debutant Shea Campbell proved enough to give champions Linfield victory over Newry City at Windsor Park. The Blues move up to second place ahead of rivals Glentoran who lost 2-1 away to Lisburn Distillery.
Gault snapped up the opener on 21 minutes after keeper Paul Murphy had dropped Glenn Ferguson's header.
Linfield had defender Stephen Douglas sent-off but they scored again through Campbell on 74 minutes.
The former Dungannon and Ballymena striker slotted in a low shot after Ferguson's persistence had won possession.
Linfield manager Jeffrey had no complaints about the 41st minute re card for Douglas.
"I do not think the referee had any option. Stephen had committed a rash challenge a few minutes earlier," said Douglas.
"For the second tackle, he may have got a touch on the ball but it was minimal.
"However, I do feel there was a Newry City player who should also have gone for two rash challenges. We were a bit disappointed with the consistency."
