Andy Crawford scored two goals against Bangor on Saturday |
The Irish Football Association has written to all parties involved in the Andy Crawford transfer and registration saga. Bangor claim that the Newry striker was ineligible for Saturday's Irish Cup tie and lodged a protest to the IFA.
Bangor say that Crawford should not have played because not enough time had elapsed since the player's recent move from Windsor Park.
Newry boss Roy McCreadie has insisted that Crawford was properly registered.
Crawford scored twice for Roy McCreadie's side in the 5-1 success.
Reports of Crawford's move to Newry surfaced on 3 January but Bangor have been informed by Linfield that they didn't release the player's registration until 5 January.
With Saturday's Irish Cup tie having taken place on 15 January, this would be well short of the stipulated 12-day interval, which apparently does not include Sundays.
However, McCreadie is emphatic that his club have acted correctly.
"We signed the player in accordance with the IFA rules," said the Newry City boss.
"The IFA have confirmed to me that all registrations (at this club) are above board."
Linfield boss David Jeffrey told BBC Sport that his club did not release Crawford until 5 January.
"The transfer fee had to be paid before we were prepared to release Andrew Crawford. The earliest that could have happened would have been Wednesday 5 January," said Jeffrey.
