England top U19 Cup group
England made it through to the Super League phase of the Under-19 World Cup as group winners despite losing by one wicket to South Africa in Chittagong.

They lost their last six wickets for 31 runs to be all out for 189, despite an innings of 63 by Steven Davies.

Vaughan van Jaarsveld hit 76 for South Africa who edged home on 190-9 despite 3-35 by Yorkshire's Tim Bresnan.

There was a huge surprise as holders Australia failed to qualify despite a three-run win over Sri Lanka.

They finished third behind Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka on net run rate and will now play Nepal, Scotland and Papua New Guinea in the Plate Championship.

Australia made 186-9 and needed to bowl out Sri Lanka for less than 98 to reach the Super League.

They soon had them 10-4 but but captain Farveez Maharoof's 56 ended their hopes, although Sri Lanka were all out for 183.

"If our boys had performed the way they did today in the match against Zimbabwe then we would be going to Dhaka [for the Super League]," said coach Bennett King.

India finished top of their group ahead of New Zealand with three wins out of three after a convincing performance against Bangladesh.

Shikhar Dhawan hit 120 off 148 balls as they totalled 309-7 and then bowled out Bangladesh for 178.

Slow left-armer Praveen Gupta (3-21) and Abhishek Sharma (3-39) did most of the damage.

India are now the favourites but coach Robin Singh said: "Each match will be treated just like any other as thinking too much creates unnecessary pressures."

Pakistan are the only unbeaten side, having proved far too good in all departments for West Indies at Khulna.

Jahangir Mirza's 92 laid the foundation for a total of 251-9 and Riaz Afridi then took 5-28, supported well by Tariq Mohmood (3-18) as they ran through the West Indies batting line-up for just 88.

"We simply have to improve our batting as we have not been consistent enough," said West Indies captain Denesh Ramdin.
