Lucky, lucky Michael Clarke. Most Australians have to wait until their late-20s to make an international debut but Clarke did it at 21.
He made an important 39 not out on that one-dayer against England and was unfortunate not to make the World Cup squad.
His next two appearances, against West Indies, saw him register two unbeaten half-centuries giving him an average in excess of 200 when he finally was dismissed.
Clarke showed he was a man for the big occasion when he smacked 44 not out off just 28 balls in a one-day series final in Calcutta recently.
And he is already establishing a reputation as a partnership-breaker with his slow left-armers, taking a wicket every 29 balls to date.
