  • 54.1% (1,786,715) have not taken part in active recreation (+3.8% of national average)

  • More people from black and ethnic minority groups (21.4%) exercise regularly than those adults of white origin (20.5%). 16.7% of women in the region exercised regularly compared to 24.7% of men.
  • Durham is the most active borough with 26.8% of people engaged in regular exercise, while Sedgefield and Easington was the least active with 16.8%.
