Gateshead equalised four minutes into added time to rescue a 1-1 draw and deny basement boys Solihull a first win of the season in the National League.

The match between the division's bottom two sides at the start of the day looked set to be heading for a drab goalless draw until Jacob Wakeling, who had earlier been denied by the crossbar, was brought down and Callum McFarlane stepped up to convert an 85th-minute penalty.

Solihull were in sight of a first victory at the sixth attempt, only for Michael Spellman to level at the death.

The visitors had to content themselves with a first point after five successive defeats, while fellow strugglers Gateshead avoided a fourth straight loss.
