  1. Strand Larsen & Mateta moves still awaiting confirmationpublished at 14:29 GMT

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

With less than five hours of the transfer window left to run, we are still waiting on confirmation of Jorgen Strand Larsen and Jean-Philippe Mateta’s protracted moves.

Crystal Palace have agreed a £48m deal to sign Strand Larsen while AC Milan will pay the Eagles around £30m for Mateta.

Wolves striker Strand Larsen has completed his medical and formalities towards his move to south London.

We are, however, waiting on news of Mateta’s medical before he can complete his switch to Italy.

The Serie A club are carrying out additional medical tests on Mateta today before giving the final green light towards his arrival at the San Siro.

Mateta, who has been carrying a knee issue, undertook initial medical tests on Sunday.

Should Mateta successfully pass his medical, both deals should accelerate towards completion before the 19:00 GMT transfer deadline.

Even Sterling might not move today, as he’s a free agent and can join anyone whenever he likes. Reminder though, if he joins Tottenham or Manchester United he’ll have played for 5 of the “Big Six”. I think I’m right in saying he’ll be the only person to do that?

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Sport England

It has been a different story in the English Football League, where transfers have been bubbling along quite nicely so far today.

    • Sheffield United have signed defender Leo Hjelde on loan from Sunderland while West Brom have taken midfielder Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba on loan from Aston Villa in the first two major deals of the day in the Championship.
    • We are also hearing Kalvin Phillips could be heading for Sheffield United and Portsmouth are lining-up a move for Luton forward Jacob Brown.
    • Middlesbrough have rejected a bid from Nottinghamn Forest for Hayden Hackney.
    • Wrexham have been quiet so far with only the signing of Bristol City defender Zak Vyner but the Red Dragons are being linked with strikers Bailey Cadamarteri of Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley's Davis Keillor-Dunn.
    • In League One, Leyton Orient have signed left-back James Morris from Watford.
    • League Two promotion chasers Swindon have turned down a bid from Salford for their striker Aaron Drinan but are set to sign Manchester United's Gibraltar international James Scanlon on loan.

It has been quiet Jasper. Feels like we need something to stir the pot.

But you know what they say though: "A watched pot never boils."

You can be sure that our transfer pot will boil over at some point, but as yet we have had no deals completed...and with less than five hours to go until the 19:00 GMT deadline.

There have been plenty of rumours though.

Talking of which, here is an update from BBC Sport's senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel...

  7. 'There is a world in which the Mateta deal doesn't go through'published at 14:05 GMT

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport Chief Football News Reporter speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live

Two deals that we have been speaking about for a while are Jean-Phillipe Mateta to AC Milan and Jorgen Strand Larsen to Crystal Palace.

Mateta is having a medical with Milan but that hasn't quite been cleared yet. There is a world in which that deal doesn't go through and that then impacts the Strand Larsen deal, that is worth keeping an eye on.

  9. Phillips looking to reignite his careerpublished at 13:57 GMT

    Shamoon Hafez
    Football news reporter

Kalvin Phillips's career has stalled after joining Manchester City from Leeds United for £45m in 2022.

He has played just seven minutes of football this season, back in September in the Carabao Cup at Huddersfield, and this would be his third loan move after spells at West Ham and Ipswich.

Still only 30 years of age, Phillips was a key part of the England squad that reached the final of the 2020 European Championship, where they were beaten on penalties by Italy.

He was named England men's player of the year in 2021 but won the last of his 31 international caps three years ago.

Always talking about the worst signings clubs have made, from the club's perspective. But what about the worst signing from the player's perspective? Kalvin Phillips must be up there. Move to Man City totally torpedoed his career.

Sunderland winger Simon Adingra is set to join Monaco for an initial loan fee of £870,000, with an option to buy for £16m.

The 23-year-old only joined the Black Cats in the summer but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at the Stadium of Light.

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport Arsenal reporter

There have been some questions about whether Arsenal could recall Ethan Nwaneri who joined Marseille on loan earlier this month after Mikel Merino's injury.

There is no recall option in the deal so Nwaneri will see out the season in Ligue 1.

  13. 'Phillips needs to feel at home again'published at 13:41 GMT

    Jay Bothroyd
Former Premier League striker on Sky Sports

He just needs to get back to playing games and feel at home again. Kalvin Phillips can play but when you go to a club like Manchester City, you have to play a certain way and it's not worked out for him.

There's a lot of pressure there, when you're next to Rodri, but hopefully we can see him return to the top again.

If Leeds don't get in a centre-forward before the end of the day we will struggle this season. DCL will miss some games and we only have injury prone Nmecha as a replacement. I can't believe we were offering £35m for JSL and then not bidding for anyone else!

    Jamie

Leeds not making a signing today is madness. We have money to spend as shown by the rejected £30m bid for Strand Larsen. Should be doing everything we can to stay up.

Sheffield United have launched a shock loan move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The Championship side are working on a deal to sign the former England international ahead of today’s deadline.

Phillips' only appearance of the season so far came as a late substitute in City's League Cup win over Huddersfield in September.

Crystal Palace hold an interest in Lyon defender Ruben Kluivert, but a deal is described as being difficult to complete ahead of the deadline.

The Eagles are trying to strengthen their squad ahead of the 7pm cut-off and have identified Kluivert, 24, as a target.

But according to sources a deal is said to be hard to complete ahead of the deadline.

Kluivert’s father is former Holland striker Patrick. Brother Justin plays in the Premier League for Bournemouth.
