Match Facts
Sunderland have lost just one of their last 12 home league games against Burnley (W8 D3), going down 4-2 in the Championship in October 2022.
Following their 2-0 win at Turf Moor in August, Burnley are looking to complete the league double over Sunderland for the first time since 1972-73.
Sunderland have lost two of their last three Premier League matches (W1), as many as in their previous 13 combined (W4 D7). The Black Cats are yet to lose consecutive Premier League matches this season, one of four sides yet to do so; the others are Arsenal, Brighton and Manchester United.
Burnley remain winless in their last 14 Premier League games (D5 L9); in their top-flight history, only from February 1889 to February 1890 have the Clarets ever endured a longer winless streak (19).
Although they have nine more points (33) already than in their last Premier League campaign in 2016-17 (24), Sunderland are actually averaging fewer shots per game in 2025-26 (9.7) than they did in 2016-17 (10.2). It’s their fewest shots per game in a Premier League season on record (since 1999-2000).
Across the first 16 matchdays of this Premier League season, no side drew fewer games than Burnley (1, level with Man City). Since MD17, the Clarets have drawn the most games of any side (5 in 7 games), and could draw four top-flight games in a row for the first time since January 1971.
Sunderland are the only side yet to lose a home Premier League match this season, winning six and drawing five of their 11 games at the Stadium of Light. The only promoted side to have a longer home unbeaten run in a Premier League season is Birmingham City in 2009-10 (15).
Only Leeds United have conceded more Premier League goals in the 90th minute or later this season than Burnley (7) – only in the 2018-19 campaign have the Clarets shipped more 90th minute goals in a campaign, letting in 11.
Brian Brobbey has scored three goals in his last four Premier League appearances for Sunderland and has the best minutes per goal ratio of any Black Cats player this season (one every 175 minutes). It’s the fifth-best ratio by a Sunderland player in a season (750+ mins played) and best since Jermain Defoe in 2015-16 (15 goals, one every 170 mins).
The 2-2 draw with Tottenham was Burnley manager Scott Parker’s 75th Premier League match as a manager – only Mick McCarthy has picked up fewer points (48), fewer wins (11) and lost more games (49) than Parker in his first 75 matches (W12 D19 L44 – 55 points).
