    Paul Merson
Former Arsenal midfielder speaking on Sky Sports

On Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet moving to Liverpool in the summer:

I found it extraordinary that he is coming in the summer. They need a centre-half now to get top four or top five.

I’m majorly shocked. I don’t know why for the life of me he’s staying in France until the start of next season. With that kind of money, you want him now!

Liverpool fans have been in touch to question why Liverpool target Jeremy Jacquet would not be moving to Anfield from Rennes until the summer, considering his proposed £60m fee and with the Reds stretched for numbers in defence.

Former England and Arsenal forward Paul Merson is similarly bemused...

We've had an update from BBC Sport women’s football news reporter Emma Sanders this morning on the future of England midfielder Georgia Stanway.

The two-time Euros winner is increasingly close to a summer move to Arsenal. We're awaiting paperwork for a pre-contract agreement but the move has been verbally discussed and Stanway has chosen to return to the Women's Super League when her current deal with Bayern Munich finishes at the end of the season.

The deal does not need to be signed this window but all parties are keen to sort it as soon as possible so they can concentrate on the rest of the season.

Speaking of the women's transfer window, the deadline is tomorrow, Tuesday 3 February at 23:00 GMT - and we will have a dedicated live page tracking all of the incomings and outgoings here on the BBC Sport website.

You can check out all of the deals that have been done so far by WSL clubs on our transfer tracker.

Would love Manchester United to do some business today, but if we can't do a deal for a player that will improve the first XI then will be best to wait until the summer. Doesn't look like super Carrick needs reinforcements anyway!

Disappointed to see the latest Liverpool transfer. Failed to get Semenyo and Guehi. Now, not only are we buying someone who's pretty unheard of, but he won't be joining until the summer?!?! What is going on at the club??? We've gone from dominance under Klopp, to clueless under Slot.

    Rob, Southport

It's infuriating. I was astounded to hear about the Jacquet signing for Liverpool, but even more astounded that we're bringing him in the summer. Do they really expect us to survive until the summer relying on VVD and Konate to stay fit and Gomez to stay fit enough to play?

    Jack, Liverpool fan

Rob and Jack are referring to Liverpool's £60m bid for Rennes' France Under-21s' centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, who is in the north west undergoing a medical but not expected to move to Anfield until the summer.

Fulham are not expected to sign PSV striker Ricardo Pepi on transfer deadline day but retain an interest in the United States international going forward.

Pepi, 23, was keen on a move to Craven Cottage and Fulham were prepared to pay more than £30m to complete the deal.

However, reports in the Netherlands say any move was dependent on PSV securing a suitable replacement in time.

Neither Fulham nor Pepi expect the deal to be completed before Monday’s 19:00 GMT deadline.

Fulham have signed winger Oscar Bobb from Manchester City and are expected to revisit a move for Pepi in the summer, with first‑choice striker Raul Jimenez out of contract at the end of the season.

Talks over a new contract are currently on hold, but Fulham want to tie Wilson down to fresh terms.
