    BBC Sport England

We have been bubbling along quite nicely so far today.

Sheffield United have signed defender Leo Hjelde on loan from Sunderland while West Brom have taken midfielder Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba on loan from Aston Villa in the first two major deals of the day in the Championship.

We are also hearing Kalvin Phillips could be heading for Sheffield United and Portsmouth are lining-up a move for Luton forward Jacob Brown.

Middlesbrough have rejected a bid from Nottingham Forest for Hayden Hackney.

Wrexham have been quiet so far with only the signing of Bristol City defender Zak Vyner but the Red Dragons are being linked with strikers Bailey Cadamarteri of Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley's Davis Keillor-Dunn.

In League One, Leyton Orient have signed left-back James Morris from Watford.

League Two promotion chasers Swindon have turned down a bid from Salford for their striker Aaron Drinan but are set to sign Manchester United's Gibraltar international James Scanlon on loan.

Oh, and Blackburn have sacked their head coach Valerien Ismael on transfer deadline day!

Ian Holloway to Rovers is the transfer I want to see.

    Dave, Lancaster

It’s too little, too late at Blackburn. Players went in the summer and weren’t replaced with Championship experienced players. The top-level management need to go and we need to be planning for life in League One again.

    Simon, Chorley

Could see Ismael was a poor appointment from the off but Gestede doesn't have a clue. Brought in relegation fodder, now facing relegation. Surprise surprise...

    Jack, Liverpool

Big Ange to Blackburn - won a major European trophy .

A bit more on new Leyton Orient signing James Morris who has joined from Watford.

The 24-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, with an option for a further 12 months.

"We first tried to get him in the summer and, this month, we have had to wait for a couple of other things to take place before we could get the deal over the line," said Orient boss Richie Wellens.

No transfer fee has been disclosed by the two clubs for the left-back, who has only made three appearances for the Hornets this season.

Sad day if Bristol City don't plug the gaps with the mass exodus of permanent moves & loans if no strikers, we know the outcome. Feeling like a Red Bull sale imminent. Poor Struber, great manager being handcuffed. After the Derby slaughter on Friday, we must get decent talent up front!

    Alison, Clifton, Bristol

Please close the window before Bristol City sell any more players. The Ashton Gate 8 will have to polish their boots if any more leave.

  9. Phillips looking to reignite his careerpublished at 14:00 GMT

    Shamoon Hafez
    Football news reporter

Kalvin Phillips's career has stalled after joining Manchester City from Leeds United for £45m in 2022.

He has played just seven minutes of football this season, back in September in the Carabao Cup at Huddersfield, and this would be his third loan move after spells at West Ham and Ipswich.

Still only 30 years of age, Phillips was a key part of the England squad that reached the final of the 2020 European Championship, where they were beaten on penalties by Italy.

He was named England men's player of the year in 2021 but won the last of his 31 international caps three years ago.

Manchester United youngster James Scanlon is set to join Swindon on loan for the rest of the season.

Scanlon has been one of the stand-out players in United’s under-21 side this season.

A full international with Gibraltar, Scanlon scored a hat-trick in a Premier League International Cup victory over Sporting last month.

The 19-year-old has been the subject of huge interest from across Europe but United are keen for Scanlon to get some experience in the Football League.

Swindon are pushing for promotion out of League Two and Scanlon believes their style of play under Ian Holloway will suit him.

Blackburn did not act quickly in removing Ismael. He was not the right appointment in the first place. Gestede should leave too. I hope we do not bring in a coach for five months. We need a coach who has the skill to keep us up and for next season.

    David, York

Valerian Ismael was badly let down by those above him. Just like Jon Dahl Tomasson and Eustace were before him. He had to go based on results, but no hard feelings from me to Val. It's an impossible job for any manager under this hierarchy.

    Coley, Preston

Now we just need our awful owners to sell up! Only then will myself and all Blackburn fans be truly happy again. Have completly destroyed our once proud club. Venkys out!!!!

Ismael GONE, Just another day at Rovers.

    Neil, Blackburn

Ismael had to go, and our next regime has a great chance for a bounce with Wednesday and Norwich coming up. Never known a more negative manager both on the pitch and post-match. Best possible news of today for sure.

    Nick, Birmingham

Decision to sack Ismael should have come at the start of the window giving the replacement time to make signings. Now whoever comes in has to work with a squad they've had no say on and that is horrendously equipt to stay in the league.

  16. Blackburn sack boss Ismaelpublished at 13:44 GMT

    Deadline day

Valerien Ismael stands on the touchline with his hands in the pockets of his Blackburn Rovers jacketImage source, PA Media

Blackburn Rovers have sacked boss Valérien Ismael after a run of eight league games without a win left the club in the relegation places in the Championship.

The 50-year-old was appointed as head coach in February 2025 and replaced John Eustace, who left Ewood Park to take over at Derby County.

Ismael steered Blackburn to a seventh-placed finish last term, narrowly missing out on a play-off place by two points. However, they have struggled this term.

Rovers have managed just seven wins in the league all season and have won just once in their past 15 games in all competitions.

  17. Bolton and Stockport latestpublished at 13:41 GMT

    Deadline day

    Josh Watton, BBC Radio Manchester:

Bolton Wanderers hope that Wrexham's signing of Bailey Cadamarteri will clear the path for them to sign Ryan Hardie from the Welsh side.

Hardie played under Trotters head coach Steven Schumacher at Plymouth; it's thought they have been keen on his signature for some time.

Meanwhile, Stockport County are closing in on the signing of Louie Barry on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Barry is currently injured and isn't expected to return until March. However, County are willing to take a chance on him, in hope of him returning for the run in.

The Aston Villa man has previously had two spells at Edgeley Park, with the latter ending last January, when he was recalled before joining Hull City on loan.

    Ian Mitchelmore, BBC Sport Wales:

As mentioned earlier, it could be a busy day at Wrexham.

The north Wales club look to be closing in on the signing of Sheffield Wednesday striker Bailey Cadamarteri and they are also interested in a late deal for Barnsley forward Davis Keillor-Dunn.

Jamaica international Cadamarteri has been linked with a string of clubs during the mid-season window but is set for a medical at Wrexham.

Keillor-Dunn, who has scored 16 goals in 34 appearances for League One Barnsley this season, could join Cadamarteri at Stok Cae Ras - which could pave the way for Ryan Hardie to depart.

Bolton Wanderers have been linked with the former Plymouth striker.
