TRAGEDY

Thursday in Unst was a really beautiful day with no wind and clear blue sunny skies. So, instead of staying late in school working on my paperwork I sneaked out before 4.30 , came home to change into my lovely, much admired wellies and set off to Burrafirth for a walk along the beach[ see photos]
As I began my customary paddle in the sea, shock and horror! My left ankle felt wet. On close inspection I discovered a crack in my wellington through which the sea water was seeping.
I am bereft. These wellies were a Christmas gift from my middle son and they have provided me with many interesting discussions with strangers who feel compelled to comment on my wonderful wellies. They have also kept my feet warm and dry, except when Herman and I got distracted whilst paddling and got caught out by a rogue wave which came half way up our thighs.
I am considering sending them back to the shop and asking for a replacement pair but I am sure they will tell me that these are designer wellies and not designed for paddling in the sea.
Ah well, such is life.

Comments

Sorry re: wellies. If it is a product defect (rather than abuse such as Herman taking a knife to it in a fit of jealousy) the shop should return it. Mention that you have had many nice comments on the internet/blogs re: those wellies, and you would hate to have to give the shop and brand bad publicity rather than good (which of course would naturally follow a full refund/replacement).

I too am saddened atg the demise of the aforementioned wellies. Where again willl see such rubber boots - complete with stars!! The sartorial world is a pooerer place.

Far North from Unst

I would never have taken a knife to those wellies. They are part of Unst's heritage. In fact they could be placed in the Heritage Centre. I will find a picture of them in their glory days and post it on the blog. I don't think after 2 years you'll get a refund though damadcoo - but you can always ask. I resent the accusation of tampering with damadcoo's footwear mjc. The Imelda Marcos of Unst will have to find other appropriate footwear.

Herman from Orkney

But where's the burn at Burrafirth? Is there a drought in the far north? Picture please.

Rereading your blog, tell me is it your wellies or your thighs you're wanting to send back?

Far North from Unst

Far North : I didn't realise I could send my thighs back. They are certainly too big for little old me. Can I send my backside back too? I'm going to a Body Shop party at Ruthodanort's house on Saturday so I could just get a whole new one. Fantastic. In truth I am offended that you should suggest that I might want to do such a thing.

Damadcoo from Unst

Far North meant no harm: he just did not have his glasses on, either when looking at the pictures or reading the text [For this in extremis intervention, Far North, I deserve a copy of "A whiff of Unst"!! Just letting you know!!] As to Ruthodanort: you folks in Unst have moved beyond Avon Calling and Tupperware parties. Now you have a party for distribution of disposable body parts? All I can say is that I hope the sale extravaganza is for a good cause...

The body shop - are ruthodanort and damadcoo getting ready for the Fank? I hope you got me some body bits too. we leave for the Fank at daybreak April 1st.

I have a pair of those wellies too, no joke. I have suffered the same fault, and it saddened me greatly too...however i have just recently started a new hobby, for which they are well suited...I pony ride. If i succeed in finding a suitable replace ment pair, i shall let you know.
