Memories of the 2005 Agricultural Show.

Arnish Lighthouse's question about cows on the Loth Road on the last page prompted me to think about summer and last years show, so here are three photographs from that show.

Many of the cattle are housed at the moment and Loth Road has now been widened all the way to its junction with the Kettletoft Road. I would not want any beast of mine loose on it with the speed some drivers come down it now.

There is not much happening on Sanday at the moment, so for anyone wanting total peace this is probably a good time for a visit. Of coarse there are the usual clubs, the odd jumble sale, swimming pool and fitness centre, and I am sure that good crack can be had at one of the two pubs. For myself, it is a case of taking advantage of the dryer days and counting down to when the garden can be sorted and the boat put in the water again.

Nice shot of the white bull. Impressive animal indeed. I don't recall seeing anything like it in any of the various State fairs I have attended. What breed is it?

In answer to mjc from NM, USA, I think the bull is a Sharolais. If I am wrong I would be grateful if someone would correct me.

Re the white bull, was Tommy Steel anywhere nearby?

Far North from Unst

The white bull is indeed a charolais. Charolais did very well this year at the West Mainland and County Show taking the top prize for the West Mainland breeders. One even caused some excitement at Dounby by escaping for a brief time. Pictures look good Sanday
