Meet Alex Scott

"I am so ready for all the sequins and the spandex, bring it on!"

Strictly history is in the making, as we welcome our first ever female footballer to this year’s line-up. Score!

“I am absolutely buzzing to be signed up, it’s the show that I’ve always wanted to do."

Londoner Alex Scott MBE first signed with Arsenal at the age of eight, staying with the team well into her adult sporting career. She was a key figure in the team’s FA Women’s Cup and FA Women’s Premier League victories in 2005 and 2006, as well as their season of four trophy wins across 2006-2007.

She went on to make 140 on-pitch appearances for the England squad and represented Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympics. In 2014 she was promoted to Arsenal’s captain, leading the team to victory in the 2015 Continental Cup and 2016 FA Cup.

Alex hung up her football boots for good in 2017, moving into a successful career in sports presenting. She made broadcasting history in August 2018 as the first female pundit on Sky Sport’s Super Sunday show, and has also co-presented CBBC’s Match of the Day Kickabout and BBC One’s The Women’s Football Show.

She’s no stranger to a Ballroom either, having won the Sports Relief does Strictly Come Dancing special in 2018. So how does she feel about slipping her dancing shoes back on?

“I am absolutely buzzing to be signed up, it’s the show that I’ve always wanted to do and I can’t believe I’m finally part of it,” she said. “I’m super excited, but also terrified at the same time.”

Fear not Alex, our Strictly family will make you feel right at home!
