Following the death of my mother in March 2008, there was much discussion about the family history and tales of the generations. Since the publication of Water for Tea in 2005, we knew that she had spent many a rainy evening tapping away on her laptop, unravelling the memories and observations she had locked away in that fascinating articulate mind. It will be one of our most vivid images of her, sitting at the dining room table reading over the tale she had just typed, whispering each sentence back to herself reassuringly.

To our delight, we uncovered an array of new short stories she had finished. The following are just some examples of the endearing, emotional and humorous accounts from more recent years. Helen Dunlop
