Trudy Watson
"I looked to my right, and there was my bed. And guess who was in it... Me!"
The Story
At the age of 25 Trudy was struck down with Polio. Completely paralysed, Trudy was admitted to hospital and separated from her 2 year old son David. Trudy had an out-of-body experience and was brought back to life by the voice of an unknown child...
The story continues...
Trudy was married in December 1946. Shortly before her marriage she was offered an excellent job with a handsome salary of £250/year, which was almost the equivalent of her fiancee, John, who then earned £285. Accepting this new job would effectively double their joint income, something that's more than welcome for any newly weds. When she went to tell John the good news he told her it was impossible for her to work. She couldn't understand why. The reason was that John worked in the bank and it was not "the done thing" for a banker's wife to work! Therefore she could not accept the job offer.
Trudy kept an account book through the first few years of her marriage so she could keep control of their domestic finances. In that book she wrote down everything from groceries to postage stamps. She still has that book today (see photo gallery on the right) and it makes very interesting reading indeed. Here you can watch a video of Trudy reading from her account-book entries from the year 1950...

Comment: I am Trudy's daughter!! Just to say I thought this was brilliant and am very proud of my mother. I like the additional area for drawings and news items.

Comment: Yes. And I am the son, David. Thanks to my Mum for coming back from the dead. And thanks to whoever you are for helping. Can't say I remember it all. But good luck to everyone.

Comment: My family were neighbours of Trudy and her family from 1962-1971; we lived across the road. I enjoyed the broadcast Trudy - good to hear your story and see your picture. Look forward to seeing you soon!
