આજનાં ઍપિસોડમાં અમે જાણીશું કે તમે રેસ્ટોરાંમાં ફરીયાદ કઈ રીતે કરશો. એવું કહેવાય છે કે બ્રિટિશ લોકો જો કોઈ બાબતે ગુસ્સે થઈ જાય તો પણ બહુ વિન્રમતાથી ફરીયાદ કરે છે. વિન્રમતાને અંગ્રેજીમાં કહીશું ‘polite’.  ગુસ્સે થવું ને કહીશું ‘angry’. મિત્રો, સાંભળો અને જાણો કે અંગ્રેજીમાં ફરીયાદ કઈ રીતે કરવું.

Excuse me! I'd like to talk to the manager.

Waiter! I'd like to make a complaint.

I'm sorry, but could I have a moment?

Do you think they were polite ways to start complaining James?

James
Yes, definitely. The first person said 'Excuse me', which is very polite, and the third person said 'I'm sorry'.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
'Excuse me' નો ગુજરાતીમાં અર્થ થાય છે મને માફ કરશો અને 'I'm sorry' એટલે હું દિલગીર છું.

James
The people complaining also said ‘I’d like to’, which is a very polite way to say what you want.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
'I'd like to' એટલે હું કંઈક કહેવા માંગુ છું. ‘I'd like to’ એ 'I want to' કરતાં વધુ વિન્રમ છે. ‘I want to’ નો ગુજરાતીમાં અર્થ થાય છે હું કરવા માગું છું.

James

પ્રેઝન્ટર
શું તમે નોંધ્યું કે કઈ રીતે 'to' નું ઉચ્ચારણ 'tuh' તરીકે કરવામાં આવ્યું. સાંભળો અને અભ્યાસ કરો.

James
'I'd like to make a complaint'.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
તો જેમ્સ, લોકો રેસ્ટોરાંમાં કઈ-કઈ બાબતો વિશે ફરીયાદ કરે છે?

James
Lots of things! The food, the plates, the cutlery, the table, the bill or the service, for example.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
‘Plates’ એટલે થાળીઓ અને ‘cutlery’ એટલે કાંટા અને ચમચા. મિત્રો, ‘the bill’ ને ગુજરાતીમાં બિલ જ કહીશું અને ‘the service’ એટલે ગ્રાહકોને પુરી પાડવામાં આવતી સેવા.

James
Let's hear an example. What is the customer's problem?

What is the customer's problem? એટલે ગ્રાહકને શું સમસ્યા છે?

Could I have a new knife? This one is dirty!

પ્રેઝન્ટર
ગ્રાહકને જે ‘knife’ એટલે કે છરો આપવામાં આવ્યું છે, તે ‘dirty’ એટલે કે અસ્વચ્છ છે. 

James
The customer asked a question using 'could'. Could is a polite way to make a request.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
'Could' એટલે ‘શું મને’ એક વિન્રમ શબ્દ છે, જેનો ઉપયોગ તમે વિનંતી કરવા માટે થાય છે. ચાલો થોડાં ઉદાહરણો સાંભળીએ.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
વિન્રમતાથી સવાલ પૂછ્યા બાદ ગ્રાહક પોતાની તકલીફ જણાવે છે. હવે બીજા ઉદાહરણો સાંભળો. આ ગ્રાહકને શું તકલીફ છે?

Could I speak with the manager? I ordered two coffees, but the bill says I ordered three!

James
Oh dear! The customer had a problem with their bill! They were overcharged.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
'Overcharged' એટલે વધારે પૈસા લેવું. ચાલો વધુ એક ફરીયાદ સાંભળીએ.

Presenter 3
Could you cook my steak more? It's too pink in the middle.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
હવે સમગ્ર સંવાદને સાંભળો. Waiter! I'd like to make a complaint.

James
I'm sorry, what seems to be the problem?

પ્રેઝન્ટર
There's a hair in my soup! Could you get me another?

James
Certainly, I'm very sorry! I'll get that for you right away.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
મિત્રો, હવે થયો છે અભ્યાસ કરવાનો. તમે વેઈટરને વિન્રમતાથી કહો કે તમને જે છરો આપવામાં આવ્યું છે તે અસ્વચ્છ છે. જવાબ આપતી વખતે 'could' નો ઉપયોગ કરો અને 'please' કહેવાનું ભૂલતાં નહીં. પોતાનો જવાબ જેમ્સ સાથે સરખાવો.

James
Could I have a new knife, please? This knife is dirty!

પ્રેઝન્ટર
Well done! જો ફરીયાદ મોટી હોય તો વેઈટર અથવા રેસ્ટોરાંનો મેનેજર તમને વળતર પણ આપશે. વળતરને અંગ્રેજીમાં કહીશું 'compensation'.

I'm terribly sorry, I'll comp you a free dessert.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
'To comp' means to comp. ‘Dessert’ એટલે ભોજનને અંતે પીરસાતી મધુર વાની.

Presenter 2
My apologies! I'll fix the problem and give you a voucher for your next visit.

પ્રેઝન્ટર
'A voucher' નો ગુજરાતીમાં કહીશું ખર્ચની રકમને લગતી પહોંચ.

James
Excellent! So the next time you have a problem when you go out to eat, you'll be able to complain with confidence!
