મિત્રો, આજે ચર્ચા કરીશું કે તમે કોઈની સાથે કઈ રીતે ‘agree’ એટલે કે સહમત થશો. ચર્ચાને આગળ વધારીએ એ પહેલાં તમે પાંચ લોકોને સાંભળો. બધા કઈ બાબત ઉપર સહમત થાય છે?

બધા લોકો સહમત થાય છે કે તેમને પીત્ઝા પસંદ છે કે નહીં. મિત્રો, ફરીથી પ્રથમ સંવાદને સાંભળો. વ્યક્તિ સહમત થવા માટે કઈ અભિવ્યક્તિનો ઉપયોગ કરે છે?

They said ‘Me too!’ This shows that you think the same as the other person.

‘Me too’ એટલે મને પણ. આ અભિવ્યક્તિનો ઉપયોગ ત્યારે કરવામાં આવે છે જ્યારે સામેની વ્યક્તિ કંઈક ‘positive’ એટલે કે સકારાત્મક કહે અને તમે પણ એ વાતથી સહમત હોવ.

અહીં બન્ને વ્યક્તિઓ સહમત થાય છે કે they don’t like pizza એટલે કે તેમને પીત્ઝા પસંદ નથી. બન્ને નકારાત્મક બાબતમાં સહમત થાય છે.

When someone says something negative that you agree with, you can say ‘me neither’ or ‘me neither’. Let’s continue – I don’t want to keep the listeners waiting!

Me neither. હવે ત્રીજા સંવાદને સાંભળો. સામેની વ્યક્તિની વાતને સમર્થન આપવા માટે વ્યક્તિ કઈ અભિવ્યક્તિનો ઉપયોગ કરે છે? શું બન્ને પૂર્ણ રીતે સહમત થાય છે અથવા થોડું સહમત થાય છે?

They said ‘I couldn’t agree more’ – this has the same meaning as ‘I totally agree’.

‘I couldn’t agree more’ નો ગુજરાતીમાં અર્થ થાય છે હું આનાથી વધુ સહમત થઈ શકું નહીં. ‘I totally agree’ એટલે હું પૂર્ણતયા સહમત છું. જ્યારે તમે કોઈની સાથે સંપૂર્ણપણે સંમત હોવ ત્યારે બન્ને શબ્દસમૂહોમાંથી કોઈ એકનો ઉપયોગ કરી શકો છો. ચાલો ફરીથી શબ્દસમૂહનાં ઉચ્ચારણ સાંભળીએ – શબ્દો ‘couldn’t’ અને ‘agree’ નો શું થાય છે?

જ્યારે કોઈ અભિપ્રાય વ્યક્ત કરે અને તમે સંપૂર્ણપણે સહમત હોવ ત્યારે તમે કહી શકો ‘absolutely’. તમે ‘exactly’ નો પણ ઉપયોગ કરી શકો છો. બન્ને શબ્દોનો અર્થ સરખો થાય છે. હવે છેલ્લી વખત સાંભળો. વક્તા ક્યા શબ્દસમૂહનો ઉપયોગ કરે છે?

‘That’s a good point’ એટલે આ એક સારો મુદ્દો છે. આનો અર્થ થાય છે કે તમે સામેની વ્યક્તિ સાથે સહમત થાવ છો, પણ એ એટલું મજબૂત નથી જેટલું ‘absolutely’ અથવા ‘I couldn’t agree more’. મિત્રો, હવે સમય છે અભ્યાસ કરવાનો. મને સાંભળો અને જણાવો કે તમે ‘Me too’ ઉપયોગ કરશો કે પછી ‘Me neither’ નો?
