YMCA Presentation Awards

Professional footballers Gavin McCann from Aston Villa and John Hills who plays for Sheffield Wednesday returned to where there careers were launched to present the YMCA awards this week.

Special Award

A Rolex watch was presented to club secretary ‘Lozz’ Rose to mark the end of 34 years of managing YMCA junior teams. Both McCann and Hills were coached by Rose throughout their 6 years of playing for the club. He received a standing ovation from the 350 people packed into the sportshall.

They were the specials guests of the Lytham St Annes YMCA Football Club’s Presentation Evening held at the clubs headquarters, St Albans Rd St Annes. Representatives from the Poulton Primary League and Blackpool Youth League committees were also in attendance as was Fylde Coast YMCA President Ian Paterson.

Under 10 joint managers Gareth Fegan and Dave Lean were awarded the ‘Manager of the Year’ trophy after their team had completed the league and cup double. ‘Club-Person’ of the Year’ award for endeavour and commitment went to club chairman /treasurer Steve Spencer.

Loyalty awards were presented to Under 15 players Adam Whiteside, Anthony Stayte, Rick Horrocks and Scott Harries.

An Achievement award was presented to Under 16 Scott Somerside for his feat of guiding his team to three successive Lancashire FA County Cup finals, Under 12s, 14s and 16s. The team claimed the Under 16 County trophy this season.

A special ‘Award of Courage’ was presented to Under 9 boy George Fox who was struck down with a brain haemorrhage last November which resulted in life-saving surgery and a 3-month stay in hospital.
