Fleetwood Gym 0–0 YMCA Although Gym had secured four points from the last two games, it wasn't going to be easy for Gym to nick the points from third position YMCA. However, a positive start from Gym saw them with most of the possession in the opening five minutes. YMCA looked first to score though, an attack on the break gave them a great scoring opportunity but keeper Bradie Stewart pulled off a great save to deny YMCA the early lead. Although denied the goal, YMCA were encouraged and a spate of attacks dominated the next fifteen minutes of play. Thanks to the diligent Gym defence, Bradie Stewart's keeping and YMCA's poor marksmanship, Gym hung on to the clean sheet. Gym finished the first half with a couple of attacks of their own, Daniel Stoney, Jake Sumner and Tom Duggan all bothering the YMCA defence. The first half ended goal-less but there looked to be more to come from YMCA in the second. As anticipated YMCA started the second half pressuring the Gym defence. A great clearance off the line by Cameron Hirst kept Gym in the game. A great attacking move from YMCA saw their striker go one-on-one with the Gym keeper, thankfully for Gym the ball bobbled just as the ball was struck and the shot went harmlessly wide. Eventual Man Of The Match winner Anthony Bowker was inspirational as he busied himself both in the middle of the park and dropping back to make important tackles in defence when needed. Gym had an attack of their own thanks to some great play from Tom Duggan and Jake Sumner, allowing Daniel Stoney to shoot on goal, forcing a great save from the YMCA keeper. Just a few minutes later, YMCA looked to have stolen the lead when a fearsome shot tore towards the Gym goal, thankfully for Gym the shot skimmed the top of the cross-bar and went behind for a goal-kick. It was a gripping last five minutes as Gym battled to keep YMCA out, thankfully the whistle blew at last and Gym rightfully celebrated a well-earned point. Man Of The Match: Anthony Bowker |
