UNDER 9s: YMCA A 2 SPIRIT OF YOUTH A 0 YMCA B 7 SPIRIT OF YOUTH B 0 YMCA clinched the PDPL Under 9 Division 1A title with two excellent performances at Seafield road last Saturday. Needing 4 of the 6 points from this their final game of the season they collected all 6 to pip local rivals Lytham Juniors to the Championship. They started very brightly in the A game with some great football and it was only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken. The visiting keeper made a string of fine saves before the hard working Jack fired home midway through the first half. With YMCA camping the opposition half it was no surprise when Kennedy fired home from a corner in the second half to ensure victory. This was a great team performance with Matthew S outstanding. In the B contest Shane, who posed problems for Spirit throughout, ensured YMCA collected the one point required by scoring four well-taken goals before half time and C Hendry was denied on two occasions before finally scoring YMCA’s 5th before the break.
In the second half YMCA continued to dominate and captain Bradley added increased their lead further. ‘Keeper Alex was unlucky with a spot kick before Shane rounded off an outstanding performance by claiming his 5th goal of the game. Oscar, M Swallow and Johnny A were also notable. UNDER 11 GIRLS: YMCA 0 LAMMACK 0 YMCA maintained their unbeaten record with a draw at home to title challengers Lammack. They dominated the first half with Evie twice going close only to be denied by excellent saves from the Lammack keeper. The second half saw Lammack put the YMCA goal under increasing pressure as they searched for the goal to open up the title race but the YMCA defence marshaled superbly by captain Olivia Turnbull held firm. 11-A-SIDE
UNDER 11s: YMCA 5 CLIFTON RANGERS 1 Andrew W opened the scoring for YMCA at Mereside Park last Sunday with a superb long range shot and although Clifton broke through the YMCA defence ‘keeper M McClaughlin saved well to deny them an equaliser. Ryan A’s searching runs continued to cause the visitors problems but it was Walkden who added his second to make it 2-0 at half-time. Shortly after the interval Clifton pulled a goal back and began to look dangerous. However, Kiele, who had an exceptional game in defence, scored from a corner and Thomas B added two fine goals before the end to round off this fine YMCA victory. Alex E and Henry H were both notable in defence and Liam R worked hard throughout in midfield in YMCA’s last league game of the season. UNDER 12s: BLACKPOOL RANGERS 2 YMCA 0 With neither team having any chance of league honours this was a typical scrappy end of season encounter at the Bispham Gala Field last Sunday. Rangers though deservedly collected all three points with a goal in each half and in a very average YMCA display Danny F was notable throughout. UNDER 15s: CLIFTON RANGERS 2 YMCA 7 YMCA completed their campaign with this victory at Rangers last Sunday to secure the league runners up medals. They were shocked when Clifton took a 3rd minute lead but a double strike by the outstanding Sam T put YMCA ahead and an Adam W goal gave YMCA a 3-1 lead at half time. After the restart YMCA took full control and added a further four goals through Gary L, Ryan A, Jake D and the impressive Anthony S who was playing his final game for the club before joining an academy. UNDER 17s: CLIFTON RANGERS 3 YMCA JUNIORS 0 YMCA looked jaded with their heavy schedule of three games a week for the past six weeks. With only eleven fit players to start the game they were reduced to ten men midway through the 1st half when Mark K had to be withdrawn through injury. Rangers went into the break with a 1-0 lead then added two more goals in the 2nd half. UNDER 17s: WYRE JUNIORS 2 YMCA 4 YMCA ran out worthy winners at Wyre Juniors last Sunday with a fine team display. Strikes by Ashley W, Henry W and Nick B gave them a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break. After the restart the home side pulled a goal back but a 2nd strike by Walsh restored YMCA 3-goal lead before Wyre notched a 2nd consolation in the closing minutes. Callum C and Adam W both impressed for YMCA. YMCA KNOCKED OUT IN COUNTY COMPETITION SEMIS The Lancashire Football Association staged their annual Under 14 One-Day Competition last Sunday at the YMCA FC’s ground at Seafield Rd in Lytham. YMCA’s Under 14 squad finished as group winners by winning four and drawing one of the five group matches and only conceding one goal. In the semi finals they met Morecambe FC’s Youth Academy who proved too strong for the host club, winning 3-0. Morecambe then went on the win the competition by beating Manchester-based Boundary Boys 3-1 in the final. Twelve clubs from throughout Lancashire took part and other local clubs involved were St Annes FC, Poulton Youth and Thornton Cleveleys. |
